Spaced wood picket fence in front of a brick home

Heartwood Fence has been building custom wood, vinyl, aluminum, and chain-link fence in Virginia Beach since our founding. Our Beach crews live here, know the soil, and understand what a Category 1 hurricane does to a poorly braced fence.

Every Virginia Beach install carries our written lifetime workmanship warranty on posts and gates.

Why Heartwood

The reason customers refer their neighbors.

Built in-house

Our crews are W-2 Heartwood employees, trained, uniformed, and accountable. Never subcontracted.

Warrantied for real

Every fence carries a written warranty on materials and labor. Something wrong? One phone call fixes it.

Genuinely local

Four regional offices from Virginia to Idaho, each one owned, operated, and staffed by neighbors.

What we build

Every fence, built with intention.

Wood, aluminum, vinyl, chain link, custom gates and repairs, designed for your yard, your HOA, and your budget.

Fence installation across Virginia Beach

From Sandbridge to Kempsville, our in-house crews handle every phase of the build: locate, permit, HOA approval, dig, set, panel, and gate. No subcontractors. If the ground is sand, we use longer posts. If it's clay, we auger deeper. Every Beach fence is engineered for coastal wind loads.

What we install most in Virginia Beach

  • 6 ft privacy wood, pressure-treated pine or Western red cedar, stainless ring-shank nails.
  • 4 ft picket, front-yard code-compliant styles for North End, Croatan, and Chic's Beach.
  • Ornamental aluminum, pool code compliant with self-closing, self-latching gates.
  • Vinyl privacy, hurricane-rated brackets on every panel.

Local climate

Coastal Virginia weather brings salt air, heavy summer humidity, and hurricane-force winds. We spec pressure-treated pine, cedar, or vinyl and use hot-dipped galvanized or stainless hardware to prevent rust in every yard within 20 miles of the coast.

Soil and dig conditions

Sandy loam through most of Beach neighborhoods, with clay pockets inland toward Kempsville. We auger 36 inches minimum and set posts in concrete on every install.

Permits in Virginia Beach

Virginia Beach requires a fence permit for any fence over 6 feet, and for pool fences of any height. Front-yard fences are capped at 4 feet. We pull the permit for you and handle the zoning check with the Planning Department.

HOA handling

Most Beach neighborhoods, including Red Mill, Ashville Park, and the newer Princess Anne subdivisions, have active HOAs with fence style and material guidelines. We collect your HOA's ARC form on your first estimate and submit it with the drawings.

Homeowners talk

The kind of neighbor-recommending word-of-mouth we're built on.

The crew showed up when they said, cleaned up every day, and the finished fence is the nicest one on the block. Zero drama.
Rachel M. · Virginia Beach, VA
We got three quotes. Heartwood wasn't the cheapest but the salesperson clearly knew what he was talking about. Two years in, no regrets.
Danny T. · Cincinnati, OH
They redesigned the gate layout so my truck actually fits through. Nobody else even asked.
