Red clay looks solid until the first heavy summer storm turns it to a slurry. We install with the drainage in mind: sloped footings, gravel bases where needed, and posts that go deep enough to stay put through a Piedmont winter.
Local climate
Mild winters, hot humid summers, and heavy pine-pollen springs. Freeze line is shallow, but red clay demands proper drainage at every post.
Soil and dig conditions
Piedmont red clay, dense and slow-draining. We auger 36 inches and slope every footing to shed water.
Permits in Greenville
City of Greenville requires a fence permit for anything over 4 feet in the front setback or 8 feet in the rear. Handled through the Land Development office.
