Pool fencing that passes inspection

Pool fencing starts with code, not with style. Height, the gap under the fence, the spacing between pickets, the gate swing and the latch height are all inspected. We build to the code enforced at your address and stay with the project through the inspection.

What the code generally requires

• A minimum barrier height, usually four feet, measured on the outside.
• A maximum gap beneath the fence, commonly two inches on a hard surface.
• Picket spacing narrow enough that a small child cannot pass through.
• Gates that swing away from the pool, close on their own, and latch on their own.
• A latch mounted high, or shielded, so it cannot be reached from the outside.

Local amendments vary, so we confirm the requirement in your jurisdiction before we quote rather than after.

Materials

Aluminum is the usual choice, since it keeps the view open, will not rust near chlorine and salt, and comes in pool-code panels. Vinyl works where you want privacy along a neighbor line. Wood is an option when the pool sits inside an existing privacy fence and only the gates and gaps need to come up to code.

Gates and hardware

Self-closing hinges and self-latching hardware are where most failed inspections happen. We install pool-rated hardware, set the closer tension, and test the gate with you at walkthrough.

Permits

Pool barriers almost always require a permit and an inspection. We pull it, schedule the utility locate, and build so the inspector signs off the first time.
